Mets 77-48 after 125 played

Reyes_4Steve Trachsel — 13-game winner. Jose Reyes — there are more than five tools, right? Because he has like 17. St. Louis, you scare us none, with your faux ace and runner-up MVP. It was a 10-8 win for the Mets, but you see, we can hold a big lead, even if we let the opposition narrow the gap.

A nice win, and one that lowered the Mets’ magic number to a mere …

24.

Not only was it Willie Mays‘ number with the Mets (and Giants) but also, briefly, Kelvin Torve‘s (and Rickey‘s but he had a bit more cred). Right now, it’s just the the number of Phillies wins and Mets losses combined that launches the Amazin’s to the playoffs.

With their 77 wins after 125, the Mets are on a pace to win 99.79 games, which I’ll round up to a smooth 100.

Eh…hello? Faux ace? Mulder is not the ace, and if you’re talking about Carpenter, he’d have won the game for the team tonight, because even David Wright admitted in an interview one time that Chris Carpenter was the hardest pitcher he ever faced. As for runner up MVP, who in the world are you talking about? Please correct me if I’m wrong, and I hope I am, because if you are talking about Pujols, that’s really wrong. Pujols only had 7 RBIs against your team the other night. Sure, team didn’t win, but he did everything in his power to make it happen. How about 2 more ribis tonight? This guy is the real deal, so if you mean Pujols is to be the runner up to Wright/Delgado/Beltran this year, you’re crazy. If they win it, baseball has lost its mind. All three of those guys will take votes from each other, and yeah, they’re all MVP caliber players this year, but realistically, the Cards wouldn’t be where they are without our “faux ace” and “runner up MVP”.

In the Cards

There is no denying the fact that Albert Pujols is the biggest reason why the Cardinals are in first in their division. However, at 66-59 they’re sinking fast and it’s unfortunate that they had to run into a team that is this good. The Cards have one MVP candidate, the Mets have 2, maybe 3. They couldn’t beat the no. 3 and 4 starters on the Mets. Their lead over the Reds has shrunk to just 1 game. Pretty soon, they’ll be fighting for the wild card. If this is the biggest threat to the Mets I say bring it on because right now the Cards are not the threat they used to be.

Simply..The Mets are the class of the National League. All the rest of the league is playing for second place only….
